My mom's one of the coolest and bravest people I know - she moved from Tokyo to San Francisco when she was 24 to work as a rock journalist, cooks the most amazing meals you've ever had in your life, and blasts the White Stripes and Arcade Fire while driving. Mom, you're the best - I'm the luckiest girl in the world to have you!
What are your plans for the weekend? I'm wrapping up my LA trip with a visit to the East side - I can't wait to see my brother and sister-in-law's new house and have a meal at Canele. (Thanks to those of you who suggested it!)
See you back here Monday!
When I compare this photograph to some of the pictures I've seen of you, I can clearly see the resemblance: apart from being absolutely beautiful, the two of you have a sparkle - you glow :) Your mom sounds like an extraordinary person! Enjoy your last days in LA and have a safe trip home!
ReplyDeleteYour mom sounds AMAZING. And she's beautiful. :) Happy momma's day!
ReplyDeleteYour mom seems so cool! Enjoy the rest of your time in LA - lucky for you the weather has been pretty consistently beautiful. I hope you didn't eat all those Sprinkles cupcakes in one sitting ;)

ReplyDeleteYour mom sounds awesome! Have a great weekend, enjoy Canele!
ReplyDeleteYour Mom is so cool! I know. I married her. xxoo
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend! I'm jealous that you got to spend so much time in LA. I used to live there and miss being in a real city. Also, I love that your dad reads your blog!
ReplyDeleteYour mum sounds so free spirited .. like mother like daughter!! So cute that your Pa even commented, or at least I hope that was him .. or else that is kinda creepy!! Anyways, have a great weekend~ I'm going to enjoy mine with my son, smothering his mum for mother's day~
ReplyDeleteYour mom sounds so rad! My mom likes much more tame music (I bought her Adele's 21 for Mother's Day). You look like her!
ReplyDeleteP.s. have I mentioned that I love your watercolor header?
Love this post & love your blog, Shoko.

the bestest in all the world.
ReplyDeleteDude, sounds like you have a kickass Mom. I work on the East side, and I've heard great things about Canele! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome. What a lovely photo of your mum! You can definitely see the resemblance. Did she meet your dad here? Have you been back to Tokyo much?
ReplyDeleteRonnie xo
Thank you so much, everyone! My mom and I are both very touched by your kind words! :)
ReplyDeleteLisa, that's so nice of you to say - thank you!
Amy, the weather's been unbelievable! Couldn't have asked for better. And no, I didn't eat the cupcakes all in one sitting - they made it through two :)
Brianna, yes, I'm so lucky! Hope you're having a fabulous weekend, too!
Henry, haha! Yes, that was him! Have a wonderful, wonderful Mother's Day with your family!
Kate, Adele's awesome, too! And thank you, I love the header, as well :) All credit goes to Ashley Meaders - and my dad, who supplied the handwriting!
Eryn, hi! Fancy seeing you here :) So, so glad you like the blog - thank you for reading!
Ronnie, thank you! And yes, my parents met in LA in the record business. We used to go to Tokyo all the time when we were younger - my mom still goes about once a year. Sadly, though, the rest of the family makes it out there much less. I miss it!
Beautiful lady! I can see where you get your good-lookin' genes from ;)
ReplyDeletei love kiko! she is an amazing woman and has such a great spirit about her! tell her happy mothers day for me!
ReplyDeleteBikbik, aww! So sweet, thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteSteph, I will for sure! Miss you!!
Happy happy Mother's Day to your mom! Her adventurous spirit reminds me of my mom who also moved to the US to pursue her dreams when she was very young (Hong Kong to Los Angeles at 19).
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a wonderful weekend and that you enjoy Canele as much as I do--a lot!!
I'm late getting to this post, but I'm glad I didn't miss it! Must have been awesome to grow up with an inspiring mom like that! Your mom is gorgeous - it's so nice to see where you come from :)
ReplyDeleteI was adopted from South Korea when I was about 7 months so I look nothing like my Italian/Irish family!
Kathy, hooray for adventurous moms! So inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteJenna, aw, thank you! That's so nice of you. And how cool that you have such a diverse family - love it!
Your mom sounds so cool and I love that your dad left a comment. I hope I will win the respects from my kids like your mom does when I get older...
