Martin's Markings.

In high school, I painted my bedroom walls bright red and slapped a giant poster of The Who above my bed. In college, my room was plastered in Polaroids. Right now, though, my bedroom walls are bare - my apartment has amazing moldings, and I don't want to cover them up. Still, my jaw dropped when I saw these photos of artist Shantell Martin's Brooklyn bedroom, which is blanketed in what The New York Times calls "stream-of-consciousness drawings."

Part of me thinks it'd be a blast to draw all over my walls. (If only I were as talented an artist as Shantell, that is.)

  1. Wow, looks amazing. One has to be super talented to do that though.

  3. Whoa, this is really awesome! I have a friend who can free-hand like that pretty well, but I'd never trust myself to be able to do something like this. It can be added to over time, too!

  4. This is amazing! Right now there are tons or print outs of tim's photos all over the room (he's working on his portfolio) so we look like mad scientists with all these shots pasted all over the wall. But this is amazing, I wish I could just whip something up like this!

  5. Neat! Yes, it would require immense talent. If I were to do this myself, I would need a very large eraser :)

  6. Wow! If only I could be so artistic! I love all the toys she has peeping out around her living space, too. It's like seeing a friend around every corner!

  7. This looks amazing! I've always admired people who dare to draw on their walls - it must be such a liberating feeling and so much fun! I love the "stream-of-consciousness" theme behind her art. What a talented artist!

  12. These are wild! Not sure I would want to do it in my house, I feel it's a little chaotic. Although, I was at the Hotel W in Ft. Lauderdale, and their restuarant has the most gorgeous Sharpie mural of zoo animals, its awesome! I actually thought it was black and white wallpaper and I had to ask them where they got it. I considered doing something similar in our 1/2 bath, since wallpaper is so expensive, but we decided against it.
