I have many favorite quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr., but the one below just might top the list. Another, which I carry around with me in a little notebook, reads, I am who I am because of who we all are. Beautiful words, and so inspiring. (Click here to read more.)
I'll be back on Tuesday; in the meantime, here's a little reading/viewing material for the weekend:
-Some of history's most memorable speeches.
-Mother Jones' Best Interviews of 2012.
-An amusing round-up of famous writers letting loose. (I like your style, James Baldwin.)
Have a wonderful three days, everyone!

I'll be working through much of the weekend too, but taking a break to see my little brother's first show at the Troubadour in LA! So excited for him. Thanks for the great quotes, they start the weekend on such an uplifting note.
ReplyDeleteMy fave MLK quote is "The soft minded man always fears change". For someone like me who is such a creature of comfort, it's helped ease my mind on many occasions. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo, Shoko! I've never seen it before and it practically brought tears to my eyes--thanks for sharing! (And love the quote, too.) Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteJulie, the Troubadour's so much fun. I think I saw my first show in LA there, too, in high school - loved it!
ReplyDeleteNina, that's a great one!
I scored a four day weekend, but like you, much of it will be spent working. I have a few errands to run, but otherwise I'll be chained to my computer editing and working on my own writing.
ReplyDeleteLove what he said, it's obvious that didn't conceived himself alone. He was part of a big comunity

Awesome quotes! I LOVE Martin Luther King Jr. I wrote a report about why he was my hero when I was in 6th grade....
ReplyDeleteBrianna, sounds very productive!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder of what the extra day is really all about, Shoko =] It's easy to forget in all the excitement of having a third day off =]
ReplyDeleteMy husband's office will be closed for MLK even though we're overseas. I think it's such a great reminder to have this day as a holiday. Thanks for the quote. I hope you'll stay warm!! Enjoy the restaurant Baracca! It looks fabulous on the web!
ReplyDeleteMLK, Jr.'s words, more often than not, give me goosebumps. I haven't heard "I am who I am because of who we all are" before, but I love it! I'm mentally preparing myself for being in the cold on Inauguration Day (a friend from LA sent me this video, made me laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6t-EjrtD3U), and planning a run to the MLK, Jr. memorial.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely weekend! Tapas and hot toddies sound perfect for staying warm!
Hello~
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend~
I'm gonna spend mine lazing around and reading.
Thanks for sharing the speeches. They are quite interesting. :)
Kathy, I LOVE that video. I have to admit, I'm sure if I was in LA, I'd be freezing, too :)
ReplyDeleteFun! I've been wanting to see that movie forever! Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHave a great long weekend! We are having our own long weekend at the end of this week - Australia Day.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite quote is what you have on the pic - "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear"
I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said: LOVE>HATE
ReplyDeleteI think it is kind of the same premise as the quote. Such simple words that resonate so deeply!
thank you for sharing that MLK quote. it's lovely
ReplyDelete"I am who I am because of who we all are" is STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.......I'm so moved by his words and hadn't heard that one before.
